Star Date #2
Naturally, we went right through.
Have you ever gone on an interdimensional exploration on bowling shoes? Bad idea. We stepped into some sort of rusty confinement. A little square room. There wasn't really any sound and it smelled kinda weird. It felt like we were in one of those dirty Vogon ships from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (dirty ships mind you, not dirty Vogons, although they probably aren’t the cleanest, I just wanted to clarify instead of starting out this story being racist to an extraterrestrial species).
Our bowling ball was nowhere to be seen. In some way we were kind of relieved. Imagine losing your bowling ball in an interdimensional portal, your mind being blown, everything you had hoped about sci-fi movies to be true, to be true. And then stepping through a portal, finally, only to see your ball lying there six feet from where you exited. Picking it up, and returning to bowling. Anti ffing climax.
This wasn't going to be our story. Also, the portal had closed.
Instinctively we started looking for some kind of button to open up the little space we found ourselves trapped in. Half fearing / hoping the ceiling would start coming down. But it didn't. And the button was actually pretty easy to locate. Behind a little transparant cover, as one would expect.
It kinda scares me now to think that we strolled so casually from our safe reality - where everything had always made sense - into something completely unknown and very possibly hostile. But that's just the kind of couple we were, already. Having had two magic moments between us now where neither of us spoke. Just looking at the other. But understanding completely and immediately that yes, this is good. Exciting, and we're going to embrace this sh*t without any trace of fear. For now.
Right before we stepped through the door we had our third little eye encounter. We looked at each other like seasoned space rangers. Not needing words after years of camaraderie. A little nod was all it took to agree to step through the door, into the great unknown. I think I was falling in love already, right then and there.
